YouTube has launched a new AI feature for conversations between users, which allows them to ask questions about the content of a specific video. The company recently revealed that this feature has been expanded to include YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States.
The new YouTube feature is only available to premium subscribers
The company confirmed that this feature was available in the beta version, but now more users can interact with the chatbot using a new button added below videos.
The video streaming platform is also introducing "pause ads" or ads that play when a video is paused to a wider user base, and YouTube Premium subscribers will get a new AI conversation
TeamYouTube announced the launch of the feature in a post on the X platform, for YouTube Premium subscribers using Android devices in the United States, and the company did not specify when the feature will be available to users in other regions.
How can you use this feature via YouTube
The company confirmed that those who are available for this feature will soon be able to do so via the “Ask” button below the videos, in the same row as the like, share, and download buttons, as the new button follows the sparkle icon, which Google now uses to indicate AI-based features, and by pressing this button, a window will open instead of the comments section, which will allow users to write inquiries about the video.
This feature allows users to get details about a specific object that appears in the video, or the type of song that is playing, or a summary of the video, in addition to that, they can also ask the AI to recommend similar content, on the support page
The company did not reveal the name of the large language model (LLM) used for this feature, but explained that “LLMs rely on information from YouTube and the web,” meaning that the conversational AI tool does not rely solely on translation data and video processing to answer user inquiries.
