YouTube has announced a new feature called Family Center that will let parents keep a closer eye on their children's accounts through shared notifications and insights. The platform said in a blog post that the feature will begin rolling out to all countries this week.
“This new experience is designed to keep parents informed about teens’ channel activity on YouTube and help provide encouragement and advice on creating responsible content,” YouTube said.
Under the Family Center option, parents and teens can link their YouTube accounts together, which will give parents access to insights about their teen's channels such as the number of uploads, subscriptions, and comments.
Parents will also be notified via email when their teen uploads a video or goes live on their YouTube channel.
“The development of these products is guided by independent experts in child development, digital learning, and children’s media who come from academic, non-profit, and clinical backgrounds,” the Alphabet-owned company said.
It also revealed that youth-focused products like YouTube Kids see more than 100 million active viewers logged in and out each month.
In November of last year, the platform rolled out new safeguards for teens such as limiting recurring recommendations for videos that compare physical features, idealize certain levels of fitness, or display social aggression in the form of offline fights and bullying.
