Ray-Ban’s collaboration with Meta’s smart glasses has been a huge success, and the company is continuing to expand the capabilities of these stylish smart glasses, which include a camera and speakers, and will soon get live translation, reminders, and more, in addition to a new clear style.
Since these Ray-Ban glasses are capable of seeing and hearing, Meta is taking advantage of the advanced AI capabilities in the new Llama 3.2 model to enable live translation. In a live demo, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg spoke with Brandon Moreno, with one person speaking English and the other speaking Spanish, while their Meta glasses translated for each person.
Despite the slight delay of about one to three seconds before the AI speaks the translation, this feature is a great addition for owners of these smart glasses. Zuckerberg mentioned the possibility of live translation in Spanish, French, and Italian, with other languages to follow.
Another improvement provided by the Meta AI application is its ability to save memory, as you will be able to ask your smart glasses to remind you where to park your car or buy apples from the store, and as the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses become more useful in daily life, you may find yourself using them more often.
Ray-Ban smart glasses can already describe what you see and answer questions about it, take a photo with the built-in camera, and now the multi-media AI has even more practical capabilities.
With the latest update, you can scan QR codes with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and call phone numbers you see printed or on a billboard just by asking, and the stylish Ray-Ban glasses will also give you fashion advice when choosing clothes and jewelry.
Be My Eyes
is an innovative service for people with low vision or blindness, where they get help from a sighted volunteer. Until now, the phone has acted as a camera for live streaming, but now Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are all that is needed.
Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses also work as an alternative to earphones, allowing you to make calls and play music. Meta has improved integration with Spotify and Amazon Music, and added Audible and iHeart.
There will be more integrations over time and continuous improvements to the AI, making Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses an ever-improving device.
To celebrate the success of this step towards the future of AR, Meta is launching a new limited-edition version of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with transparent frames. We've seen Meta CTO Andrew "Boz" Bosworth wearing these glasses in the past, and now you'll be able to get your hands on them too.
