Microsoft today began testing a new compact version of Game Bar with Xbox Insiders, and like the Xbox app on Windows PCs, Game Bar is getting its own compact mode designed for smaller screens, Windows mobile devices, and even when playing on a PC with a controller. “With Compact Mode enabled, access to tools and navigation is simplified to ensure you can get to the content you want as easily as possible,” explains Oliver Shaw, Senior Product Manager, Xbox Experiences. “When using a controller, you can quickly switch between tools using the left and right (LB/RB) bumpers.”
The Home tool in the built-in Game Bar lets you view any recent or currently playing games, and you can even quit games from here too, which is ideal if you’re using a controller. You can also quickly access tool options using a controller and this built-in mode, or access the Tool Store for additional Game Bar features.
Microsoft is testing this new Compact Mode for the Game Bar with Xbox Insiders today, and you can sign up to test it and then enable the new mode in Settings. Microsoft has been gradually improving its Xbox app on Windows in recent months, including Compact Mode and controller improvements for navigation and game play.
