Apple has released iOS 17.6.1 for iPhone users and iPadOS 17.6.1 for iPad users, with Apple saying the updates include bug fixes, including a fix for an issue with Advanced Data Protection
According to 9to5Mac, Apple’s release notes for iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 read: “This update includes important bug fixes and addresses an issue that prevented Advanced Data Protection from being enabled or disabled
Advanced Data Protection is an optional feature that extends end-to-end encryption to a number of additional iCloud services, including iCloud device backups and Messages & Photos backups
Apple has revealed that the Advanced Data Protection bug in iOS 17.6 affected a small number of users, and if a user tries to enable Advanced Data Protection and it fails, they will be presented with a clear error message so they know the change failed
If a user tries to turn off the feature and fails, the interface will show that the feature has been turned off, but it is still active on iCloud, but after installing iOS 17.6.1 and macOS 14.6.1, these users will be prompted to go to Settings and verify that they want to disable Advanced Data Protection
iOS 17.6 was a minor update for the iPhone, released last month, and the update included a number of bug fixes and security improvements
It also introduced a new “Catch Up” feature in the TV app, which uses machine learning to create a series of video highlights of MLS matches
You can update your iPhone to iOS 17.6.1 by heading to the Settings app, selecting General, and then selecting Software Update
