Microsoft has revealed the release dates for the three new Xbox Series S/X console options that were revealed earlier this year. Microsoft announced that the new consoles, which include the 1TB Xbox Series S, the 1TB All -Digital Xbox Series X, and the 2TB Xbox Series X Special Edition, will launch on October 15, with select countries following on October 29.
Microsoft confirmed in a post on Xbox Wire that the new Xbox Series S/X controller options will be available in all current supported regions and markets for Xbox consoles , but markets in India, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates are not yet supported, and the company has not revealed any plans to bring the new controllers to these markets.
The three new console options include a 1TB SSD storage variant of the Xbox Series S in Robot White, a 1TB All-Digital Xbox Series X, and a 2TB Xbox Series X Special Edition in Galaxy Black, which were announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
The less expensive Xbox Series S, which doesn't come with a disc drive, was originally available with 512GB of storage in Robot White. Microsoft introduced a 1TB storage variant of the console in Carbon Black last year. The newer option offers 1TB SSD storage in Robot White. The 1TB Xbox Series S in Robot White is priced at $349.99/€349.99.
The 1TB Xbox Series X Digital Edition ditches the disc drive to provide a more affordable option for users who prefer the power of the more expensive Xbox console and mostly buy games digitally. The all-digital console option comes in machine white and is priced at $449.99 USD / €499.99 ERP, which is lower than the standard Series X, which is priced at $499.99 USD.
Finally, the top-end variant is the Xbox Series X Galaxy Black Special Edition 2TB, which comes with 2TB of expanded storage, a new Galaxy Black color, and a matching Xbox Wireless Controller. The Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X is priced at $599.99 USD / €649.99 ERP.
The release dates for the new Xbox Series S/X console options were also revealed at Gamescom, the ongoing video game expo where Xbox's parent company also made several announcements about its upcoming games. At the event, Microsoft also revealed three new Xbox accessibility devices and 3D printable files for adaptive joystick covers for gamers with disabilities.
Accessibility devices include the new Xbox Adaptive Joystick, the Proteus controller from ByoWave and the Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller from 8BitDo. The new Adaptive Joystick acts as a wired companion to Xbox controllers and comes with four face button inputs, a standard Xbox joystick and two additional shoulder buttons that act as shock and trigger buttons on traditional controllers.
The new 8BitDo controller features low-resistance buttons and a highly sensitive Hall effect joystick — all positioned on top of the controller for easy access. The controller also comes with two programmable super buttons that can be mapped without any additional software and are fully compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller.
On the other hand, the Proteus controller comes with modular “snap and play” parts, which allow players to customize and set up the controller in any way they want, the controller features over 100 million different combinations.
